Brock Winans: "Taking Place" June 12--July 10, 2015
The summer season of exhibitions starts June 12, 2015 with recent work by Cleveland artist and fellow Cleveland Institute of Art alumnus Brock Winans. Brock utilizes digital imaging to create compositions which draw from both photography and traditional drawing techniques.
"While working on a historical restoration project, during the rise of the use of digital technology, I learned how to combine photographs and digitized drawings into printed composite works. From that point I have experimented with digital techniques and print media, using my own photographs, drawings and digitized prints to create composites art works.
I often like to use a panoramic format for my work, I feel that it gives a greater sense of travel and telling of time passage on a journey. In "Colonization of Objects (Cleveland, OH)" I combined different views of Cleveland's old Innerbelt Bridge, before its demolition, and the surrounding industrial landscape as overlaid and blended layers, creating an imagined composition from my experience."
Taking Place is on view at Mastroianni Photography and Arts with an opening reception on Friday, June 12, from 6-9PM, and July 10, 6-9PM. Other hours are by appointment only.
