Alan sits for the view camera

I was very excited to have another subject sit for a large format black & white film portrait; this time it was Alan Steytler, who decided he wanted to do a session after he saw my first Dark Silver exhibit this past winter. We had a great sitting, creating some dark, quiet, introspective images, sculpting delicately with continuous lighting and careful posing. If you would like to sit for a portrait session with the large format view camera, please contact me. Sessions are usually limited to the studio due to the size of the camera, but more involved sessions can also be booked for location shoots. Portrait sittings are an involved process, with careful camera set up and lighting, and the creation of a dozen or so exposures. Then each sheet of film is processed by hand in my exclusive darkroom. After reviewing the proofs, final enlargements are printed by hand one at a time to archival standards. Sizes vary from the original negative proportions up to 20×24 inches.

A studio session, which includes paper proofs and one 16×20 toned fiber base silver gelatin print, is $450. Location sessions start at $600. More information can be found on my sister site silverscuro.com.

Here are a couple of favorites scanned from the original 8x10 contact prints:
